Podcast Show Notes

So we all want new clients, right?! But there’s a piece of attraction that needs to happen to grow a reader’s trust and see you as the solution to their problem. One way to do this is to optimize your blog posts for SEO.

As I discussed in Episode 50, I rely on publishing content to my blog every week inside my simplistic sales process.

This leads me to share in today’s episode, “How to start writing an SEO-friendy blog post to boost your visibility.” To put it bluntly, a blog post without visibility does nothing for your bottom line.

If you are a hobby blogger and don’t use your blog as a monetization tool, this episode isn’t for you.

But if you want to use your blog to help monetize your brand – this exactly the episode for you.

I want to help you make sure that every blog post you publish is done so in a way that will automatically BRING NEW READERS to your content, thus increasing your high-quality leads.

And that leads me to make sure my blog posts are SEO-friendly.

What is SEO?

According to Yoast SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimization.’ It’s the practice of optimizing your web pages to make them reach a high position in Google or other search engines’ search results. SEO focuses on improving the rankings in the organic – aka non paid – search results. If you have a website and want to get more traffic, it should be part of your marketing efforts.

So if you want to produce high-ranking blog content, certain on-page factors can influence this ranking.

And that’s what I’m going to share with you today – even if you a blogging beginner.

Because why blog if your niche audience can’t find it to read it?

6 Tips to optimize blog posts for SEO

So when you decide the purpose of your post, what the main message is going to be, who you are writing it for … the next thing to do is structure your text to communicate well with your readers and be optimized for search engines.

Use these 6 Tips to Increase your Blog Visibility:

1. Start with Keyword Research.

Keyword research is deciding what topic you want this blog post found for. That’s why this is the first step in your writing SEO friendly blog post – because you need to use these keywords in your copy to get ranked.

This research is about finding the keywords your audience would use to search for your blog post.

Two resources I use to find the best keywords is the Keywords Everywhere Plugin and the website AnswerthePublic.com.

2. Define the Structure For Your Post.

This means every post should have an introduction, body, and conclusion.

The introduction is where you introduce your reader to your topic, introduce the keyword, and let them know what question you will be answering for them in the post.

The body is where you write your main message, and the conclusion is where you summarize your main ideas and draw your conclusion. The entire blog post should have a minimum of 300 words. Google does like longer articles; however, it will scare readers away if your article is too long.

3. Choose a high ranking headline.

I see many of my clients overlook the headline they choose for their article. But there’s a simple tool inside WordPress that can help you, and it’s called the headline analyzer from MonsterInsights.

A few things to consider when choosing the headline – also known as the title – of your blog post is to keep your character count under 55 characters long. This way, they fully display in search results and tend to get more clicks.

You also want to use the appropriate percentage of common, uncommon, and power words.

And lastly, you want to keep your headline positive. You never knew there was so much that went into a headline, did you!?

4. Use paragraphs, headings, and transition words.

Now I know that everyone uses paragraphs as they type, but not everyone uses them correctly.

Some things to consider when determining how to divide your paragraphs are, first and foremost, they should have their own idea or subject and shouldn’t be too lengthy. I’m not saying every sentence needs its own new line – but each paragraph should be readable and quickly scannable.

Headings and subheadings inside your blog article help your readers understand what a specific part of your text is about. Again, they assist the reader when scanning your page. Plus, SEO loves seeing your keyword in some of your subheadings.

Lastly, transition words help people scan your text and understand the connection between sentences and paragraphs. Transition words were a new concept when I started blogging, but the more your write, the better you get at adding in words like “however, finally, first all, and in short,”… which are all transition words.

5. Include internal and external links.

Linking other webpages is one of the last steps I perform before publishing my blog article and is essential for your rankings in Google.

Internal linking is when you link to other content you’ve published related to what you are writing about in your current post. You can link a word or full sentence but this helps your reader view other content on your site.

External linking, also known as outbound links, adds value to your article by allowing search engines to follow through from your site onto a followed link outside your blog. These could be linking to sources you used when writing your article, other bloggers’ content who are authorities in the subject you are writing about, or to one of your other sites outside of your blog.

6. Add content regularly.

By publishing new content consistently, you tell Google that your website is alive and well. If you stop publishing – Google will crawl your site less, and this might negatively affect your rankings.

You are blogging to increase visibility and bring more and more people to your site – so aim to produce at minimum one new article per week to keep your content fresh, updated, and tell Google to continue crawling your site.

Help setting up your blog

As a critical part of my simplistic sales system, I help every client set up their blog. Because the way I see it, besides having your own spot on the web that you own, your blog is essentially your think tank. It holds all your content in one safe, scannable, easily readable, and reachable location.

Plus, when used correctly, your blog generates new email subscribers and paying clients on auto-pilot.

Most of the 1:1 clients I work with inside CORE Brand Marketing Group are entrepreneurs who have a brick and mortar store or are familiar with e-commerce and are looking to grow their income streams with a digital product offer.
